VARIABILITÄT DER ZAHNMUSTER, ANOMALIEN UND PATHOLOGISCHE VERÄNDERUNGEN VON SCHÄDEL UND GEBISS BEI KLEINSÄUGERN
ANOMALIES AND PATHOLOGICAL CHANGES OF SKULLS AND DENTITION OF WILD SMALL MAMMAL SPECIES FROM GERMANY
Skulls, jaws and teeth of wild terrestrial small mammals (Sciuridae, Soricidae, Erinaceidae, Talpidae, Gliridae, Arvicolidae, Muridae) are occasionally affected by anomalies and pathologies. In individual cases, the organisms of small mammals are able to heal themselves from even serious injuries to the skull. - Jentzsch, M., Kraft, R., Lemkul, A., Kapischke, K., Maternowski, H. & Wolf, R. (2020): Anomalies and pathological changes of skulls and dentition of wild small mammal species from Germany. – Journal of Vertebrate Biology 69(4): 20072. https://doi.org/10.25225/jvb.20072

VARIATION AND COMPLEXITY OF THE ENAMEL PATTERN IN THE FIRST LOWER MOLAR OF THE FIELD VOLE, MICROTUS AGRESTIS
The variation in complexity of the lower first molar, M1, of the Field vole, Microtus agrestis, is investigated. Two possible routes towards increased complexity are described and are depicted schematically. It is concluded, that increased tooth complexity enhances masticatory effi ciency. - Kapischke, H., Kraft, R., Jentzsch, M. & Hiermeier, M. (2009): Variation and complexity of the enamel pattern in the first lower molar of the Field vole, Microtus agrestis (L., 1761) (Mammalia: Rodentia, Arvicolinae). – Vertebrate Zoology 59: 191-195. doi: http://doi.org/10.3897/vz.59.e30981
